There's been this disturbing trend going on for a few years now.  Video games based on movies that are better than the source material.  Chronicles of Riddick seemed like a masturbatory excursion through Vin Diesel's psyche, yet he was on to something that just could not be expressed on the big screen.  He followed that thought up with the video game, which was fantastic!

Now, it's Wolverine: Origins.  Shitty movie by even my relaxed standards (in my book, Constantine was a better movie/adaptation), yet it has a video game based off it that does everything right where the movie went wrong.

Are we seeing it?  The day video games begin to surpass movies in sheer ability to tell a decent story, or just a few random coincidences?

Not a huge gamer anymore, but I imagine it's the same as book to movie syndrome. You can write a 2,000 page monster of a book....but the movie is going to be 2 hours no matter what they have to cut. You can squeeze more into 16-20 hrs of playtime than you can in 120 minutes of film.

Gotta give it up for Ross.  He really is freakishly, nonsensically, fast.

Well, a lot of that playtime, you should be...I don't know...playing?Smiley  But they are coming up with great ways to introduce story elements while you hack away, like BioShock's audio tapes left laying around.

Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Dark Athena was a good game, same with the revamped Butcher Bay add on... great game especially since it is 2 for 1 basically...

Now I agree 110% about Wolverine. The Game makes the movie look like a lame SyFy original movie. If they would have used more of the game stuff like his trek thru the jungle, his more detailed fight out of the weapon X facility. and even his stuff from the begining of the game in the future and what happens at the end of the game when you see the future, it would have really saved that movie....

So what do you think is next?

The next movie based game that will totally eclipse the movie...

I dont know for certain. Maybe when Magneto is released it too will trump the movie namesake. Maybe the GI Joe game is better than the movie? I dont know honestly. that is a tough question

I think what's next is seeing content in the game that is supposed to to more than supplementary to the movie.  Like, almost more than bonus footage that's canon to the movie itself.

You mean how in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith they had the alternate ending to the game?

Exactly, only more prevalent in the coming games that are tied to Hollywood projects.

Ok, Elross, Geoff, mickey, etc. Anyone who has Seen Xmen Origins Wolverine in the movies, click this to see all the stuff they put into the game.

After you watch all this, tell me honestly if you think the movie would have been 100% better if they would have incorporated more of this story into the movie...
