As promised in Episode 76 posted this morning, I'm soliciting suggestions from the SomaCow herd and PTG fans for apps to add to my iPod Touch. Free ones, please--keep in mind I'm still unemployed. Which apps do you use most? And do keep in mind we're talking iPod Touch, NOT iPhone - it's an important distinction because while the iPhone can always connect to the Web via the 3G network, the iPod Touch can only get online through WiFi and in places where WiFi is available. Automatically eliminates lots of the apps that are good for phones like GPS and whatnot. Thoughts?

2 of my Favorite FREE apps are the Bowling App I have and the Skee Ball game I have. Also there is one called Waterslide where you navigate a City wide Waterslide (also Free). If it was Free, id have gotten the Monopoly app but i aint paying that much for it.
Also Tweetdeck and a decent Facebook app called FB Focus.

I use EverNote quite often to take notes in class or to jot down facts about podcasts in my writing for CastMedium. Dropbox is an excellent connectivity tool to stay synchronized with files on your PC, although it obviously requires a Wi-Fi connection. Stanza is an proficient e-book reader, with easy uploading for free e-book sources like Project Gutenburg. Last.fm is great for listening to music around the house as an alternative to the radio. Finally, I find myself reading Engadget all the time to stay up to date on tech news, and their iPhone app is fantastic. As far as games are concerned, PewPew, Rolando Lite, and UnBlock Me Free are worth a shot. There are a couple of games that are free just today, so grab them while you can - Angel Rush, Alien Glyphs, Buster Red, Hippo High Dive. Also also, might want to keep an eye out on: http://www.freeappaday.com/index.phpAs is the case with most things, you get what you pay for. Right now, Best Buy is offering a free $5 gift card with the purchase of a $25 iTunes card, which might be worth picking up if you want to pinch pennies and still scrounge up a handful of good, low-cost, paid apps in the process. Here's the link for Best Buy's offer: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat201200050005Good luck!

For a quick update, Aurora Feint II: Arena Daemons is temporarily free, as well. I also just wrote a review for ReBounce on my blog, a pretty cool Breakout/Peggle-inspired game that's currently on sale for a buck.

Iheart Radio is another free app that rocks. Does require wifi, but Orlando's 104.1 is on there.

How's the play action? Does your finger inhibit, or did they go with black side controls? I MUST KNOW! Best mega man, ever. Bubble Lead all up in your ASS!

How's the play action? Does your finger inhibit, or did they go with black side controls? I MUST KNOW! Best mega man, ever. Bubble Lead all up in your ASS! It's certainly not ideal, considering there's no haptic feedback so it's sometimes hard to use the d-pad. I think they've done a little bit of rebalancing to compensate for the controls, though, to the point where some hardcore whiny gamers bemoan the changes. Not a huge problem for me, considering I found the older Mega Man games to be pretty hard, so I'm having a good time. As far as the best Mega Man comment goes, I'm about 33%-33%-33% between this game, Mega Man 3, and Mega Man X. Also, back on target for a moment, 8bitone is currently on sale for $1, which is a pretty full-featured chiptune/synthesizer app that's cool to mess around with. Instructions for it are in Chinese, though, so you're on your own as to figuring it out. [App Store | Website]

Zen Bound is currently on sale for $2 (down from $5), a game I'd consider one of the best on iPhone as well as one of the best implemented usages of iPhone controls. It's a real bargain and there's a lite version if you want to try it out before pulling the trigger on the HIGH DOLLAR price of the real game (skip that Coke at lunch tomorrow and you can afford this game). Just found out about a really, really fantastic app that's worth every penny. If you're familiar with the This American Life podcast, they recently just released an iPhone app that gives you access to their whole archive as well as sweet extras, like radio shows from David Sedaris and an interview with Terry Gross. Best of all? The damn thing only costs $3, which is likely at least half the price of your lunch tomorrow. So, brown bag it, buy this excellent app, and enjoy one of the best podcasts on the internet: [App Store | This American Life Website]
